Hi all,Mine is DIY, using the Transformers and Chassis of the British Edison 60 Kit. The attached Photograph shows an earlier 300B PSE version, it looks slightly different now. Chassis is the same but the valves are somewhat different.
In the Middle front there are a pair of GZ34 (Russians work, Mullard sound better), behind them a pair of 6AS7 (Svetlana is just fine, RCA 6080's or Tung Sol 6AS7 don't sound that much better).
In the two outer Back positions goes the Output Valve, this one can be any 4-Pin DHT you care to NAIM. I have at only Sovtek and Chinese 2A3's, as well as Svetlana & Sovtek 300B and Golden Dragon 300B's.
Of all these I like the Svetlana 300B best, Sovtek 2A3 second. Even the Golden Dragon 300B sounds nice though. I have a few 45's (and hopefully 50's) on Order, let's see what I can get.
In front of the Output Valve is a EL84 or SV83 as Driver, I personally use Mullard E84L Special Quality ones, but the SV83 sounds quite good too.
Anyway, the whole amp makes do without any 'lytic Capacitors but in the 300B (DC) Heater. As the PSU is regulated and adjustable The Poweroutput depends widely on Valve used and +B Setting. With the Svetlana Valve I like 420V +B and 750 Ohm Cathode Resistance.
All Voltages (heater, +B) and the Cathode Resistors are adjustable externally, the Output Transformer Impedance is adjusted by "mismatching" the Load of 45's and similar. The Output transformers have more than enough Primary inductance for deep Bass.
So to switch from a 300B to a 2A3 takes me about 3 Minutes....
My Speakers are huge (6cuft) apperiodic cabinets made from Solid Pine and Spruce with extensive Martix Style bracing and a 4mm skin of very hard plywood (both for sound and looks). They are loosely modeled on the Rehdeko RK175, but use much better Drivers (Goodmans Axiom 80 10" Fullrange and a Goodmans Axiom 201 as additional Woofer, whizzer removed).
This get's me 101db/W/m sensitivity, measured with pink noise and > 104db/W/m measured with white noise. I pedance is "nominally" 8 ohm with a 7 Ohm minimum. Bass is pretty decently flat (in room) down to 30Hz, output is still notable and undistorted at 20Hz.
Anyway, that's what I use.....
