Lots of new, fancy, pricey gear about. For all kinds of people/systems. The 'new' stuff always seems to have this or that highlighted technical feature. As different, or slightly divergent. To set it apart from that which came before.Currently, I'm spinning a fifties/sixties vintage belt drive modded/diy turntable. Sizeable AC motor, that generates a spot of wind rush from the integral vented flywheel. From the listening chair, the 'noise' is there, when no music is playing. With a stethoscope, the rack shelf sounds like the opening minutes of Terminator 1. The turntable plinth itself, not quite so.
In a spinning silent groove, or on a grooveless record. Vol control wfo, there is just the vinyl/stylus (and of course a tiny spot of tube rush). The motor and suspensionless plinth are absent. When the grooves are modulated ..... there is only music. Sweet, sweet music.
