Thanks all for your replies; there must be a number of issues with this amp I have to have adressed by the designer, I noticed that one of the output tubes does not have it's filament glowing when on (although there is very little channel imbalance), there is also 'blue glow' corona discharge in the other tube - so there are issues other than noise in the input driver. It won't discourage me from SET's, the musical magic is there even with these problems, now I just need a solution...
