I have always thought it was "better" to optimize for one tube OR another in most cases, and I can certainly rate different versions of even the same tube type in the same circuit according to how well the version "likes" that particular circuit. I would think any 2A3 I've heard would want more juice to do its "best" versus a 45. I know people do it, and switching "on the fly" would be fun, but you might not get the best from either tube if you go for both.
