The Fi/Sun/Audio Note (all same/similar)6SN7 circuit is exactly as you say, and a very fine circuit. The SRPP ,while useful, will never sound as good due to its design.
An AA battery can usually be put into the 1st section cathode circuit to replace the cap/resistor there, to battery bias the circuit. This is an improvement IMHO.I am listening to this myself at the moment driving a 2A3. This also has battery bias,but on the grid this time though.
