I think the SS remark is pushing criticism of the Sovtek too far, and "lean" needs qualification. With a nice Vinyl rig and a neutral pre-amp and amp driver tube upstream, the Sovtek 2A3 can do plenty enough of life/magic -- especially if tonal/timbral neutrality is important to your perception of "Real". This neutrality is VERY important to me, and I worked with the rest of my system to be able to best exploit the Sovtek's strengths. The "45 Magic" is not lost on me; but in 40 years I have not figured out how to use the 45 in a way that consistently and across the spectrum improves on what I can consistently get from the Sovtek 2A3. I believe that several AA inmates run multiple systems just so they can enjoy each SET tube's special merits with that tube's "favorite" music. I don't have that luxury, and I find the Sovtek 2A3 to be a very nice, very neutral, compromise.Paul S
