Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

winning circuit

I believe this circuit, a 27/45, is a winner and with webster opt's, I just cannot imagine what a better amp might sound like.

The 6sn7 part is using the srpp circuit, and is put on a seperate chassis with its own power transformer.

This circuit came with a good sounding 2a3 amp that we got from the midwest area a few years ago. It can be either a 2a3 or a 45 circuit with a slight modification.

I noticed something special about the 2a3 amp with this circuit with the nearfield abbys, a little more rhythm to the sound than with other amps I tried. But overall I preferred the sound of the 45 and the webster opts with the abbys.

I thought the extra rhythm had to do with the 27 tube so I asked John, who builds the amps, to build me a 6sn7/27/45. He found the schematic lying around from this amp to do a 27/2a3 or 45, so he just used that schematic for the 45. And it's a winner.

The only extra I can say is to use a 274 rectifier in the place of the 5u4 for the 6sn7 driver.

And why not try a pair of websters in this amp?

Anyone interested can e-mail me and I'll forward it to John who has a copy of the 27/45 or 27/2a3 schematic.
