Re: Need opinions about sound differences between 45, 2A3, and 300B?

45 might have a little more open sound, a little stronger in the magic of the midrange. In an optimal situation, it is a bit hard to beat. It can be nothing short of captivating and fabulous.

300b seems a little more balanced in the sound from top to bottom. maybe a little wider in the presentation of the sound. It can be very nice also, just wonderful. It is nearly as open, but a tad less so, with the TJ meshplates as the 45 sound is.

I haven't had a chance to do much with the 2a3 recently so I cannot comment on it. It is a good sound, and it has its own unique sonic characteristics.

These set tubes can have way more openness, natural sound, real sound, 3-d sound, than non sets, it seems to me. But it depends quite a bit on the amp.

Which tube would depend on the speakers and other conditons in the set-up. It depends on what you got to work with.

Seems to me right now, in comparing 4 particular set-ups I have, two sound better with the 300b and two sound better with the 45. But one of the two with the 45 has got a little more going for it.
