It provides a fullness to the sound, a wideness to the soundstage, and adds to the dimensionality. Plus it really adds to the gain. It does all these things without throwing the sound off.
I think you are right. The 26 steers it in a more articulate and interesting sound direction.
I have quite a few of 6sn7/300b amps, and I'm not sure how I feel about them. I mean how they compare to the improved sound with the 26 driver in-between.
They are not as articulate. They are a little more darker and mysterious. They might emphasize the dimensionality a little more.
I use a few of them but I have basically replaced most of them with the 2 stage driver amps.
But then again, I never have any intentions of parting with them. lol. They ain't going anywhere!
I'm not sure what you mean by the dc. We only use ac on all the filaments. We tried dc on a 10y driver tube because of its hum problem but the dc was unacceptable. Dc "sounds" high end, perhaps more than the ac does, but it is like a hollow shell. Ac needs to be on every filament, if we are talking about the same thing.
