Sound zombies

That is a fascinating statement. I am beginning to feel like a sound zombie the way I am pulled towards them, and that others mayb be pulled the same way.

I don't want to rant on them. Enough has been said. But if you could hear them with the new speakers I got today, you would know why. The kind of amp that if you built innumerable amps, this is the type that you would keep for yourself.

300b or 45, both can be great. The 845 came out decent. Perhaps the circuits or the tubes were just not as good. And the opts don't match what the 845 needs as well. So far we have found that using two driver stages is the best.

For the 300b, I like a 6sn7/26/300b. i really like the 6sn7 driver, and the 26 gives it a little more of a bite (perhaps better than the 6sn7/300b alone), yet it is still very mellow. Perhaps the srpp circuit is a little better than the fi primer circuit.

For the 45, it seems that the 6sn7/27/45 is perhaps the best amp to date. It's better than the 6sn7/45 but we haven't tried a 6sn7/26/45 yet.

For both, it also seems better to have the 6sn7 circuit on its own chassis with it's own power supply.

Maybe I also like the 274 tube over the 5u4 rectifier tube. The 274 sure seems like a nice tube in the 6sn7 preamp of the 45.
