Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

Moth s45 & JK 45

I like the 45 also. It only took two seconds to realize the 45 was the tube for me... after listening to 2a3's in my Moth s45. I've gone back and forth several times in the last two years and the difference is quite large. As others have stated, 45 makes magic. Regarding the JK. We demo'd the two amps last Fall and I can't say anyone found one better than the other in any meaningful way. I perferred my amp w/EML solid plates. The system didn't have a preamp which some believe isn't the best application for the JK. I also have a CD direct system, that the Moth adapts nicely. Just to clarify, the JK was pretty much stock, except that Jeff cranked up the output to mesh better with his passive. He also fine-tuned the tube compliment. My amp had some custom mods [see system notes] and I sampled many tubes before finding my reference. Actually, when researching 2a3/45 amps the JK was my second choice after the Moth. Now I'm about to bypass the stock LCR 'lythic cap with a much smaller value NOS poly' cap.
