If I remember correctly, JC Morrison in one of his seminal articles on a 2A3 amp said there were few bucks. And Gordon Rankin said in his Bugle amp article that you could make an amp with cheap 45 tubes that would outperform then current state of the art solid state amps. When even the Chinese products are overpriced, you know youre in trouble. Of course, its competitive; when everything is overpriced then anything is competitve. If Lee deForest climbed out of his grave today, he would probably climb back in.
