Re: Anyone?

This idea should work good to create a great performing amp on the cheap. With the need for parafeeding the RS transformer we need a cheap plate load to keep in the spirit of things. Voltseconds extended volts and current C4S can be built for around $20 (both channels) if you can find a heatsink in the surplus market for cheap.

I have built a 45 amp that uses the big C4S on the output stage. The C4S was not very difficult to build but you have to make sure that everything is absolutly wired correctly before you test it. The transistors have absolutly no sense of humor about over voltage or over current. Please read and understand Voltseconds circuit description before undertaking this project. The only problem I have had is this bugger will oscillate in the 25 to 100Mhz range if the powersupply does not have good RF grounding at the C4S.

The power supply voltage range mentioned in another post in this series is right up the alley of what I'm using. My B+ is at 575V and I'm getting 1.2 watts from the 45.

I'm interested in hearing if anyone builds a CCS using a pentode. It would be an easyier circuit to setup than the solid state C4S and proably more tolerent of boo boo's during the development phase. (it would also keep the people that don't like sand in their amps happy ;-}).

In the final preparation for VSAC I hope to get schematics drawn up with notes on what it takes to keep it happy and some photos on my website. Right now I don't have any info about the high voltage/current C4S on my site. Been too busy tweaking and screwing around to document anything!

Enjoy!

Gary
