I've built the "Simple 45/2A3" on Angela's site and was very pleased. Pictures of the amplifier and link are on my webpage. It is very nice sounding and straight-forward to construct. It is not a kit, but a good first homebrew project if you have basic electronic knowledge and skills. The amplifier was presented at
Boston Bash 99 and there are nice pic's at that site.I've also breadboarded the "Bugle" 45 by Gordon Rankin and am planning to adapt some of the elements into another amplifier I'm working on. Gordon really gave the DIY community a nice gift by publishing the circuit and details. Wonderful sounding, it was in issue #13 of Sound Practices. I can get you a copy of the article if you need it.
Frankly, you can put together a top notch 45 amplifier for a lot less than $2K. I'd figure on $300-500 tops depending on what is already in you "junk bin". The majority of that will be for a pair of 5K output transformers.
