...that you want to stick different output tubes in similar circuits without optimizing the amp for them, the story changes. So instead of designing a "complete" SET amp to get the sound you want, you plan to use a "generic" design and tune it with the output tube?In that case, I'll bow out, because I'd be BS'ing if I made any suggestions. Sorry I was so negative with you, but you didn't tell the whole story at first.
BTW, the first SET amp I heard was the Wavelength Duetto with WE's a couple of years ago, and it blew me away. I tried the SF/Assemblage 300B amd and the Cary/AE 2A3/300B amp, but they paled in comparison to the Duetto. I found that in the sub-$1K range, I haven't found an amp yet that I like better than my ASL KT88SE SI15 Signature amp.
Low-powered sets will come in 2-3 years when I move to a bigger place and get to use horn speakers.
Good luck with your project. I will be interested in hearing about your experiments, and how they turn out.
Since speakers generally have much wider frequency response variations than tubes/amps, what speakers will you be using? Is your roomed tuned for maximum frequency response flatness?
