Those RS record guides...

They were a great source of information for me in the 70's-80's. Mainly just to see what is out there and get a bit of insight on what to look for next. As far as the "rating" I was often offended. Remember that these were written by Dave Marsh and the like who favored East coast and midwest bands. The dismissed the Doors, Grateful Dead, and many others simply because they did not understand more that 3 repetitive cords or teenage lyrics. They wanted everyone to believe that Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen were the greatest things to happen to rock since the electric guitar. The Dead and Doors were dismissed as music for the drug influenced minds that simply wanted to say "far out". Yes I do remember the blue one I had that rated no Doors over 3 stars and no Moody Blues over 2.
