The 600i just kind of sits there

When we first got the Simaudio 600i, it was obvious, that it preferred to let other products in the audio chain do the talking. Initially, that elicited a "ho-hum" vibe or reaction from us. The 600i, in a sense, "passes the buck" to the other parts of the system, especially source components. The 600i seemed to say, "Gimme whatchu got. But if you give me mediocrity, mediocrity is what gets passed to the speakers."

In all of my correspondence with audiophiles, most are of the persuasion that, for this kind of $$$$, they want their amplification to (a) have a sound, and (b) make it to their liking. And that's perfectly fine. These audiophiles will generally no like the 600i's self-effacing personality.

OTOH, my friends (non-audiophile women) are less about "let's see what this sounds like," and more about the music itself. They want their dance music and lite rock to come alive, and move them. They have always liked to sing in the shower and car, and that is the spirit they want the home stereo to attain. And if the sources are up to snuff, that's what the 600i delivers. If you were to watch my friends, you'd notice that they do not talk about sonics. But you see them bouncing along, and doing their nerdy S-shaped sway, to the music. And if a song has a male lead singer, the women, while singing, do not change the lyrics.

We've been able to use a smattering of <$1000 speakers with the 600i. The old Epos ES11, NHT SuperOne, Sonus Faber Concertino, and Totem Rainmaker all punched above their weight and price categories. You felt like the 600i was getting the most out of these modestly-priced speakers.

The 600i isn't biased, so if you and your guests like a wide variety of music, the 600i won't pull back or get in the way.

Not including the clicks when changing inputs, the 600i is quiet. And at least in the years I've lived with it, the 600i does not give off any heat. These qualities make the 600i acceptable and satisfying over the long run.
