An Inmate from L.A. wrote, "I've been up to the Bay many times, even went to the Greek Theater for a concert. And some of my in-laws went to Cal."
35 years ago, Bay Area radio stations jumped on the fact that Timex Social Club came from Berkeley. So perhaps we got to hear "Rumors" before the rest of the country did.
After listening to the lyrics, my classmate Rachel was aghast, "Michael's not gay. He's just a freak!" Little did we know then, how true she was.
In summer '86, "Rumors" became a huge hit. But here's the thing. Back then, we did not wear Timex. Instead, we wore Casio and Swatch watches.
Anyway, Timex Social Club split, and then their producers worked on/with Sacramento's Club Nouveau.
