An Inmate reached out to me, and, like many others, said that he hadn't posted (on any of AA's fora) in years. Sure enough, clicking on his moniker showed that his last post was in 2012. But, he said he enjoyed browsing, and in particular, loved the variety and depth on Rocky Road: "It's stuff audiophiles like and play in private, but just don't talk about."
He then said he got a kick out of citing a song, and explaining where you were and what you were doing, when you first heard it. "Did it move you then, and does it move you now?" he rhetorically asked.
During the Spring 1991 quarter, I did come home to San Francisco. Back then, MTV still pretty much was a radio station, airing music videos. It had enough time, that it played somewhat obscure material, such as Enuff Z'Nuff's "Baby Loves You." Perhaps too glam metal in image, "Baby Loves You," which kind of sounds like Cheap Trick (both hailed from Illinois), should have fared better.
Be that as it may, the girlfriends would come over, and then we'd walk across the street to Japantown. Since she doesn't hear "Baby Loves You" that often, my wife finds it cathartic, and brings her back to a more innocent time, being a teenager in the early-90s [the Inmate above asks, "So does that mean that we are in guilty times?"]. Likewise, it's good to mix things up, sprinkle in some power pop/glam metal, and play "Baby Loves You."
