Simple Minds, "See The Lights"

"What shitty timing!" barked my dormmie, Tish.

30 years ago, my dorms were arranged in a quad, surrounding a lawn. If you didn't want to be bothered, you could find pockets, to get away from the others. OTOH, the buildings were of such size, that you could get to know each other. So it was common, to crash/sleep in neighbors' rooms. And that was on top of roommates getting sexiled.

Tish claimed that she was born in Israel. Therefore, she would go around, stating, "I'm Asian!" Others in the dorm thought of Israel as Mediterranean, and therefore, part of Europe. But then Tish commanded you to look at a map. She reasoned, "Since Turkey is part of 'Asia Minor,' then Israel is even more Asian!"

Tish said that, when sleeping, she ran hot. So she frequently kicked off the blanket(s). That didn't bother me, so when a bunch of us were deciding where to sleep, I slept with Tish. I warned her that I snored, but she just shrugged.

And of course, an agreeable topic was music. You'd think that audiophiles would, like us college kids, share music. 30 years ago, Simple Minds came out with "See The Lights." Because our dorms were located at an elevation around 1000', we could be right in the coastal fog bank. Such was the case, when we woke up. Mood-wise, "See The Lights" felt right. But that's when the straight-forward Tish exclaimed, "What shitty timing!"

You see, "See The Lights" was about summer coming to an end. But this being May 1991 in the middle of a drought, summer was approaching. Tish was right, and "See The Lights," despite being a good song, just did not fit Northern Hemisphere's oncoming summer.
