Boyz II Men, "Motownphilly"

An Inmate informed that he drove a couple hours into Philadelphia, to purchase a used/demo Simaudio Evolution 610LP phonostage. One of my audio buddies has the 610LP, but I do not. Nevertheless, the Inmate said, "Man, Lummy, the information you give is spot-on."

Then I reminded him that, if he ever had the funds, he could always add the 820S power supply, to his 610LP.

Which brings me to Philadelphia. In Spring 1981, I was in 4th grade, at a school in San Francisco's Marina District. At an assembly, the principal announced that one of my classmates, a popular blonde girl, was moving to Philadelphia. I was crushed! And because of that, I harbored kind of a negative bias against Philly.

Fast forward 10 years. I was a sophomore at isolated UC Santa Cruz. At dances, Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" was wildly popular. You then started to hear it in dorms.

In the early-90s, the new jack swing of "Motownphilly" was just right, in bringing back 60s Motown and 70s Philly soul. "Motownphilly" rapidly spread throughout America, and then to the rest of the world. It never went out of style, and is still ubiquitous today. And now, our Gen Z kids are latching on to it.

One of my audiophile friends lives in Arizona, but his wife is from Philly. Always kind of interesting, when the Cardinals play the Eagles, the Coyotes play the Flyers, the Diamondbacks play the Phillies, and the Suns play the Sixers.

And the Inmate above does NOT listen to Motown and Philly soul, but with the neutral Simaudio 610LP, he can always borrow or buy such records.

Motownphilly's back again? Well, it never left :-). I've only been to Philadelphia once in my life, and it's on my bucket list, to go back once more.
