Sepultura, "Roots Bloody Roots"

Responding to the thrash metal posts below, an Inmate emailed, "I know a handful of audiophiles who are into rock music, but they don't hang out here [on AA]. They were put off by the same old a------ who poison the well, make personal attacks, and don't expand their musical palette. And yet, these are the same a------ who don't add or offer anything, don't make any contributions."

25 years ago, rock music got a little more experimental, when Brazil's Sepultura dug into their native cultures, and incorporated tribal elements, into their brand of punk and industrial groove metal. Back then, I did not feel as though the general American rock fans were ready for it. They were more into numetal and rap metal.

But that didn't stop my friends from dancing and spinning to Sepultura's "Roots Bloody Roots." I think the photo above was taken when we were in the western part of Golden Gate Park. Doesn't quite show the ripped jeans, but the plaid is prominent. So 90s.

"Roots Bloody Roots" encouraged you to investigate your ancestral past. No, we did not have 23 And Me back then, so you interviewed older relatives, and those who knew them.

You took Stereophile's Recommended Components, and 90% of the products utterly failed, to get "Roots Bloody Roots" right.
