Oleta Adams, "Get Here"

Damn. This reminds me of why, went I attended UC Santa Cruz, I didn't get any work or studying done. The drought notwithstanding, the weather was sunny and warm, and the place was just beautiful. Even when we did not hit the beaches, I just could not concentrate on studies.

As Spring Break 1991 was coming to an end, and we were preparing to return to our respective colleges, Oleta Adams' "Get Here" was a hit. It made us feel more adult, and also went hand-in-hand with the burgeoning high-end audio market. If your boyfriend/girlfriend went to a different school from you, "Get Here" put you through the emotional wringer, but also encouraged both parties to be strong, and see each other more often.

In 1985, when Tears For Fears were touring the US, they stumbled upon Oleta Adams at a Kansas City hotel bar. Eventually, she would sing and play piano on TFF's 1989 album, The Seeds Of Love . On that tour, Adams would perform solo as an opening act, and then join TFF during their set.

In 1990, Adams re-launched her solo career. TFF's Roland Orzabal co-produced Adams' new album, Circle Of One . In early 1991, "Get Here" became sort of a coming home anthem, for US personnel in the Gulf War.
