"That's not Van Halen!!!" a busload of my biology classmates screamed, 35 (!) years ago. Seems like yesterday, when we had a cool bus driver, who was taking us from San Francisco to the coast. The morning fog burned off early, and with the sunny sky, a radio station introduced the new song, "Why Can't This Be Love," by Van Halen.

Except, it wasn't the familiar David Lee Roth, who, unbeknownst to us, did not return to the band. Marin County's Sammy "I Can't Drive 55" Hagar was the new lead singer.

I did not quite know what to make of "Van Hagar," but that field trip was the inspiration, to take an interest in audio. That would lead, a few years later, to high-end audio. The rest is history.
