Animotion, "I Engineer"

One of the great joys of this hobby is when other audiophiles share information about their respective high schools. The variety is enriching, but for most people, this was when they forged a deep connection with the music. In turn, this was how many of us then learned about electronics, and became audiophiles.

I went to the overcrowded academic inner-city high school. We had a modular block class schedule. To alleviate crowding, your "lunch" was simply whenever you had free blocks. Throughout the school day, our hallways were crowded. You would sit in front of the hallway lockers, and listen to a Walkman (and later, Discman).

During the Fall 1985 semester, Oingo Boing's "Weird Science" was the nerd herd's anthem. And then, 35 years ago, during the Spring 1986 semester, Animotion's "I Engineer" was an anthem. It was quite a scene, when several students marched robotically down the hall, chanting "I Engineer."

Even back then, you hardly heard "I Engineer" on the radio. So it's not surprising, that present-day radio stations still do not play it.

Yes, many of my schoolmates later went into engineering fields.
