Wilson Phillips, "You're In Love"

30 years ago, you had a college history class. During that Winter 1991 quarter, that class had 9 books, which meant you had to average basically one a week, before finals. At the beginning of the quarter, you didn't know much about the subject, yet, you had to plan and get started on your term paper.

With Wilson Phillips' "You're In Love" playing in the background, the biology types explained that the "flowering plum" trees were now in bloom. These trees generally did NOT bear fruit. Starting in April, the real cherry trees would flower, and produce fruit. These were bad for the campus, because students would pick the cherries, and throw them against the white-walled buildings.

In your history class, you'd break off into little study groups. You knew full-well that, if these ever got down to one-and-one, that was a relatively common vehicle, for the two students having sex with each other.

One of your study buddies was Ben, who was tall, dirty blonde, pretty handsome. Another was Danielle, an average brunette, but one who explained the difference between "flowering plum" and real cherry trees. Your class wasn't just "history;" you had to learn of the geography, societal norms, economics, military might (or lack thereof), natural resources, human capital and production, political spheres, and events leading up to the time period. Those all required knowledge and understanding. The history class was making your eyes glaze over, but you could tell that Danielle was making sexual overtures to Ben.

Somewhat surprisingly, Ben said NO to Danielle. So when Wilson Phillips' "You're In Love" played, it took on new meaning, between Danielle and Ben.

As an audiophile, you were inspired. If Ben could say NO to Danielle, then you could say NO to audio products, even if they were popular and had received glowing "professional" reviewers. And then you could turn around, and, despite peer pressure from other audiophiles, say YES to Wilson Phillips' "You're In Love."
