Princess, "Say I'm Your Number One"

During the Spring 1986 semester, your studious friend/classmate got new glasses. And of course, everyone called her "Librarian."

In Study Hall, Librarian had her Walkman, and was doing that nerdy swaying/head-bobbing. She spotted and summoned you. She offered one of her earbuds. You weren't grossed out by her ostensibly dirty earbud, so you pulled closer. Librarian was narrow/thin up top, so you leaned closer. And that's when you learned that she was widest at her lower hips. Most other guys would act like nothing happened, but you said, "Excuse me."

And that was the first time you got to hear Princess' "Say I'm Your Number One." Princess' real name was Desiree Haslop, and you hoped that she wasn't naming herself the female Purple One. Princess was yet another artist under Britain's Stock Aiken Waterman umbrella.

Your guy friends walked in, and said, "Your girlfriend stinks. C'mon Inmate, let's go play" sports. As they dragged you away, you tsk-tsk'd to yourself: "I wish Librarian were my girlfriend. She's smart, reliable, and....okay, she doesn't smell like the pretty girls, who wear makeup, perfume, and hairspray."

And hey, you got to enjoy, albeit with just one earbud, grooving to Princess' "Say I'm Your Number One," with Librarian. So you say to yourself, "Hell yeah, I wish Librarian were my number one, number two, and number three!"
