Hi-Five, "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)"

"Yes, there used to be a shuttle," emailed an Inmate, "From UC Davis to Berkeley," when he was an Aggie in the early-80s. "And yes, Cal kids would take the Friday evening shuttle, to visit Davis."

Each weekday morning, a jitney shuttle would depart from in front of UC Santa Cruz's McHenry Library, and go to UC Berkeley. It was for UCSC staff and students to go to Cal, to do research, and use its libraries. Because of the long trip, the return shuttle did not get back to Santa Cruz until nighttime. Yes, Cal students would take the Friday evening shuttle, to go to Santa Cruz.

My Cal friends were much more urban, and they brought music with them. In early 1991, one such song they brought, but which you'd never hear in Santa Cruz, was Hi-Five's "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)." At least in my dorm, I wasn't aware of my neighbors playing any kissing games :-)

Interestingly, "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)" became popular enough, that in May 1991, it became a #1 hit. My nextdoor neighbor, Andrea, shook her head, "If this is the new #1, standards have slipped."

The top floor of McHenry Library houses the Grateful Dead archive. I assume it is still closed, during the pandemic. If you've been there (I have not), please let us know what it was like.
