30 years ago, my friends from San Francisco were preparing to return to their respective colleges. But before dispersing, a group of us went on the Bay, and visited Angel Island. On certain sides of the island, our Walkmen could receive radio stations. Aw man, when Timmy T[orres]' "One More Try" played, we wanted winter break to extend juuuuuuust a little longer.
It was even more excruciating for long-distance couples, who now had to part for the Winter 1991 quarter. Be that as it may, 30 years later, Timmy T's "One More Try" remains a favorite.
Timmy T was originally from Fresno, which is where quite a few of my college classmates came from. He moved to L.A., to latch on to the dance/freestyle scene. Interestingly, "One More Try" broke out of the club circuit, and made it to the mainstream. In March 1991, "One More Try" made it to #1, one of the very few freestyle songs to do so.
