Overkill, "Rotten To The Core"

At the end of 1985, without the internet, we had to rely of word-of-mouth for underground music. My friend Shelly was/is a couple years older than I, and was our Lone Wolf. She was never part of any clique. She joined us, on her terms. She referred to us as "bitches," regardless of our gender. Nevertheless, Shelly was on our side, and she was a main source for heavy metal music.

Although Overkill's Feel The Fire ostensibly came out in Fall 1985, we didn't learn about it and the band, until early 1986, when Shelly lent out the cassette. When we read magazines, they listed Overkill as being from New York, but in reality, they were (proudly) from New Jersey.

Anyway, "Rotten To The Core" was a fan favorite. It added to Shelly's desire to get a leather jacket. However, when she started to try some, she thought they were overly heavy. Moreover, she didn't like the ones with metal studs, which scratched her and others. As a slender girl, she then shopped for shiny, lighter, vinyl-like leather jackets. Certain audiophiles are fans of black leather jackets. Leather jacket or not, Overkill's "Rotten To The Core" may or may not be the first of their songs you knew, but do re-visit it.
