In the latter half of the 80s, we loved Erasure. But when the 1990s beckoned, they went into a slide. In 1995, they tried to mix it up, and came out with their eponymous album. Here, the songs were longer, more slow to mid-tempo.
My then-girlfriend, ACS, had recently graduated from UC Berkeley, and had a high-paying job at Genentech. And she still found time to continue working a few hours a week at Victoria's Secret. VS models were known as "angels." Though ACS was not thin, she nevertheless listed "Angel" as her favorite song on the Erasure album. "Angel" was one of the more energetic songs on the album. But this was one album we did not really take with us, to audio stores. Maybe if we had, perhaps I would not have purchased the underwhelming and rhythmically static Thiel CS1.5, which was reviewed in the November 1995 Stereophile.
