Dream Theater, "A Change Of Seasons"

25 years ago, life was good. My girlfriend, ACS, had graduated from Cal, and had a high-paying job at Genentech. That allowed her to afford to live in her own apartment, just minutes from work. And, her parents gave her the little Toyota Tercel, so we were able to go places. And, she became my bowling partner.

Prog-rock band Dream Theater came out with an almost hour-long EP, A Change Of Seasons . The 23-minute title track consisted of seven pieces:

I. The Crimson Sunrise
II. Innocence
III. Carpe Diem
IV. The Darkest Of Winters
V. Another World
VI. The Inevitable Summer
VII. The Crimson Sunset

For a 23-minute song, "A Change Of Seasons" actually goes by quickly. The rest of the EP consists of live cover songs.

As that Fall turned to Winter, high-end audio was peaking, and ACS and I liked to hit stereo stores. Yep, we did indeed bring the Dream Theater CD with us.

We still have that actual CD. IDK, it fared better on, for example, Thiel and Totem, versus comparable Martin-Logan, ProAc, and Sonus Faber loudspeakers. Funny how, when we listen to "A Change Of Seasons" now, the memories, vibes, gestures, and smells of 1995 come back.
