The Smiths, "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side"

For this, we turn to an audiophile, who writes in, stating that in 1985-86, his was a senior in college near Philadelphia. He says that the "subculture" turned him on to The Smiths' "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side," which then became one of his favorites.

Back then, his local record stores did not stock CDs. "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" did not appear on an album until summer 1986's The Queen Is Dead . By then, says the audiophile, he had graduated from college, and gotten a job in New York. There, he bought The Queen Is Dead on vinyl (he didn't get a CD player until 1987) from J&R Music World.

Because The Smiths could not afford other musicians, the strings on "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" are synthesized.

After the audiophile brought up "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side," my wife and I looked up, thought about it, and realized that we hear this on various internet radio stations. But as far as our local Bay Area radio stations go, we can't recall the last time we heard one of them play "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side."
