Anthrax, "Got The Time"

One Inmate acknowledged that most audiophiles came around to thrash many years after its 1990 peak. So he wanted the others, who were actually there, to tell more of what it was like.

My friends and I had seen many thrash acts, including Anthrax, on their own. However, in late Spring 1991, we got to see the Clash Of The Titans Tour, which featured a triple headliner bill of Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer (Alice In Chains opened). At the indoor Cow Palace, Alice In Chains were actually a little better than they would later be at the outdoor Day On The Green, at the Oakland Coliseum stadium. Fans were most wild about Slayer, who were what people think of as the conventional, fire-and-bloodbath hell. Megadeth just stood in place, bobbed their heads, and played. Anthrax came across as your regular, middle class American, post-punk band.

On Persistence Of Time (I was wearing that shirt), Anthrax did a cover of Joe Jackson's " Got The Time ." My aunt knew the latter, which came out in 1979. She understood how and why Anthrax tightened the sound. Later in the 90s, when you used Anthrax's "Got The Time" as a reference, you were disappointed, in how many products absolutely failed to get the bassline right.
