As a teenager in Houston I used to stay up listening to the FM rock station. Occasionally they would give away a new release late at night.I was the tenth caller!!! one night. The female DJ answered the phone and said I was so lucky because I was getting an album by a new band, The Cars, and it was great rock!
I drove in from the suburbs, took it home, played it, was unimpressed... I was kind of into Cat Stevens, James Taylor,
Dan Fogelberg...you get the drift.Listened to the album once and filed it away with my other to be forgotten albums. I had a lot of Columbia House subscriptions through the years.
Maybe two months later a friend came over to listen to music and after a couple of albums asked if I had a "Rock" album. I put on The Cars as a semi-joke and he said this is great. I AGREED!
They became one of those bands that I waited for their newest releases.
