An Electric Blues Afternoon with Duane Allman

Today I've been spinnin' both the Allman Brothers Band "The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings" [Mercury, 2014, 6 CD's] and "The Derek & The Dominos Layla Sessions: 20th Anniversary Edition" [Polydor 1990 3 CD's].

So I had sort of a can-you-take it contest-- both original albums are among my deepest life-long favorites on vinyl, but for now I'm not going to pull either out for 6 months, having heard 'Statesboro Blues" about 6 times today!

You'll notice both sets are public library copies, Somewhere from the bowels of the library (or from the bowels of some library patrons, considering April was forgiveness month) there have been a series of massive box sets show up in the music section. We recently listened to something like 130 Patsy Cline songs remastered and sounding clear as a bell, for example. What a voice! Whatever the reason, I'm dancin' around the ol' Bearcave!

Why they might put together sets like these Allmans and Dominos is a bit beyond me. They have every note of every playable piece of tape from these 2 disparate sessions but it's a little like Library of Congress kind of stuff, rather than the more common, strictly commercial music-biznis canned product. Who do I look like- Alan Lomax? More like Willy Loman (wearin' a bear suit). It was worthwhile for an afternoon but I have time on my hands.
