The thing with Americana is the quality of the musicians, songs and most of the recordings. Anyone with a decent system has to be enthralled by the music in the right listening environment. I'm not sure if I still would be listening to music if not for Americana. Today's popular music doesn't grab me, and yesterday's music (rock, never was a jazz fan) seems dated. You mention a few artists I too dearly love. The nice thing is that many of the artists (ex Emmylou and a few others) still play in smaller venues like the City Winery here in Chicago. Just saw Lucinda there last week - great show and her band was oh so tight. Rosanne Cash is playing tomorrow down the street from me at Dominican University!
Finally, I look forward each year to ACL's broadcast of the Americana Awards show. Always excellent with a great mix of new and established artists. I think the 2015 awards show will be broadcast soon. Time for a glass or two of a nice Italian red!
