Have some friends that go to the stadium shows here in Chicago to see Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, etc but I think they go because it's the thing to do vs. appreciating the artist - how can you appreciate anything from hundreds of yards away? Even the good seats, if you have the $, aren't very comfortable or conducive to listening to music. We frequent the City Winery here to see what many would call country folk/blues/americana artists on smaller tours. Up front seating, pleasant atmosphere, good wine/craft beer. What's not to like. Have seen some very good shows there including Peter Wolf & Carolina Chocolate Drops. Shelby Lynne is next up. Can't imagine not being up close any more. I will admit to popping for $$$ tickets/seats at the Chicago Theatre for a top notch artist, however. But it has to up close or I pass.
