If you can get the ratios right, especially for smaller rooms where axial modes may manifest at somewhat higher frequencies, well and good. But their importance is over rated. All rooms will exhibit bass issues, even those on the hallowed charts of favorable dimensions in Everest's book. The number and placement of bass transducers, room equalization, bass traps etc renders the notion of a golden ratio moot. Toole in an acoustics review does say that calculation of favorable dimensions may have a practical significance if developed in tandem with loudspeaker positions in that room.
