RE: How many audiophile experiences can be verified by empirical (not anecdotal) observation?

All too true, ignorance can be bliss.

I used a pair of AR speakers in my study years ago and liked their sound but as they were a little harsh on strings so placed them on the floor. Eventually we moved and I wanted to mount them higher so I looked into the problem and found that the tweeter in one of them was breaking up through part of the midrange. I ordered a new one and it did the same thing. Of course, once I KNEW what the problem was and exactly what it sounded like I heard it every time it was invoked and could no longer use the speakers. Sigh...

Come to think of it, that was an example of an empirical audiophile experience that was easily verified once one bothered to examine it.
