Well with normal pop/rock music program I would argue that this amp almost never clips.

With wide dynamic range material then it will of course clip sometimes but then so will nearly all amplifiers, the question then becomes "how audible was that clipping?"

Based on some literature I found regarding microphone preamps, which can also overload relatively easily, they found that tube microphone preamps had a subjective clipping headroom 10db greater than a transistor one. Now 10db is 10x the power in a power amp. This means a 30 watt tube amp will SUBJECTIVELY sound like it has a dynamic headroom similar to a 300 watt SS amp. Interesting, is it not? Even if it were only 6 db difference the tube amp would behave like a 120 watt SS amp!

So much for watts is watts.
