RE: Some thoughts

Certainly training helps and it is well known that trained listeners have lower thresholds and higher consistency. However, your hearing system is what it is and your in-ear frequency response remains a constant, training or not (at this point I'm not considering hearing loss issues).

As for describing what you hear with words, if there were generally accepted terms with clear definitions, for some life would be much easier. There were attempts, other than HP, to establish such vocabulary:

Journal of the Audio Engineering Society
1985, p.33 : Gabrielsson : Perceived sound of quality of Hifi loudspeakers

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
1974, vol.55, p.854 : Gabrielsson :Judgements and dimension analysis of perceived sound quality of sound reproduction systems
1979, vol. 65, p.1019 : Gabrielsson : Perceived sound of quality of sound-reproducing systems
1991, vol.90, p.707 : Gabrielsson : loudspeaker frequency response and perceived sound quality

From what I read I think that the German audiophile/reviewer has the same approach as the English, using somewhat inappropriate terms, such as dark, earthy, sparkling, full-bodied, black etc.
