You're making a very generalized statement. What you described is not with what I hear with my friends in Central Florida Audio Society's speakers or was it what I heard with my friends in Connecticut's speakers. In fact if anything I'd say most of the people I call friends/audiophiles/music lovers have speakers that tend to be polite in that area, myself included.

Nothing irrates me more than bright exaggerated treble! Personally I find it very difficult to obtain what I called extended, detailed treble without crossing the line to bright exaggerated treble. It requires a good bit of time and effort finding the right speaker that will do that correctly but, until I do I'll err on the side of polite over bright exaggerated treble anyday!
