Yep a finitely flexible driver will also distort on starting just as readily on stopping thus distorting the initial transient as well.

So what? The driver itself will not be continuing to generate waves thus prolongating a signal that is no longer being generated by the electronics. This is an important distinction.

When exactly does the DC get turned off? If you do this the plasma will collapse.

10s of percent distortion?? I think not.
