In Reply to: What Is The Biggest Problem With Speakers Today? posted by thetubeguy1954 on March 13, 2008 at 12:00:16:
Weird, high-order crossovers poorly engineered cause the outputs of various driver to fire out-of-phase with others; often they're even *wired* out of phase! No amount of staggering will correct this problem.
For one thing, such speakers present a polite sort of sound albeit with an ersatz spaciness. But worse, far worse, they almost totally eliminate the sense of polarity in reproduced music. This leads to two further results: a lack of real "punch" even at louder levels, and a fixed opinion among owners that "absolute polarity" means squat.
