It depends on what music one is listening.

Hi.

If one listens to sound & fond of boom boom bass whatosever music is it, then go for an active subwoofer.

But for people like yours truly, mainly for classical & vocal music, I doubt if one really needs any subs as I am yet to find such music performances that involved tons of boom boom synthesized basss.

That said, I still get my 10" brandname active sub hooked up, but swithced off unless I need to shake myself up from dozing away with some hard rocks.

It is the type of music that calls for a sub or not, IMO.
