Re: tongue in cheek response from someone in the "cables make a difference to me" camp

I bet you are right!!

One thing that needs clarification is that many of those in the "if I can hear it it must be real" camp agree entirely with your statement that the price/ performance ratio of high end cable is out of wack.

I certainly do, and would never spend money on industry cables because DIY is so cheap, and often times just as good, or better for a ton less.

That said, I have no problem making a cable with $20-30 worth of parts and selling them to friends for $100- 200. Since it often takes me a day or two to make the damn things, this is probably a bargain...not to mention all the experimental cables that I have to make that take up time and other resources...

As for DBT, I have done an informal one with a buddy involving 3 home brew interconnects. All sounded different, and had similiar construction with a different variable.

I knew the different constructions, and he just knew letters of the interconnects. I didn't know enough about geometries or dielectrics, to even hazard a guess as to which would sound better, but our listening notes were very similiar.

I am all for DBT that try to determine what constructions have what effects on what we hear....But tests that try to pit one cable brand against another seem pointless to me. Perhaps those kinds of tests would be more beneficial WITHIN a manufactures line??
