Honestly, listening should be the only criteria for selecting cables of any sort (once proper length is figured out of course).If you like 8tc then use 8tc!! Who cares what anyone else says!!! I certainly am not going to rip out my 30g solid core cables because some "technical" book says 12 g stranded is better.
Anyhow, here is a link or 2 that might get you started. I know there seem to be issues with this paper at least for some on the prop head plaza, but it makes some sense to me and at least to my ears, the conclusions seem to be borne out in what cables I tend to think sound better. Particularly in the bass region where stranded thick constructions sound bloated to me.
