Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

If Romex is so good,...

Hi.

would you use it for your amps & speaker hook-up? Any cables must be UL/CSA approved to be allowed for use inside any buildingsin this part of the world. Romex is only one of the cheapies among many many available.

Sonically, they are craps. You may as well use some cheapie steel wires to wire up your amps & speakers as well. Not fire risks & cheaper even.

Since you sound like a layman in the cable industries, let me tell you more about the major supplier of bulding wires or house wires to the largest USA/Canada hardware retail outlets, e.g. Home Depots.

What does this one of largest cable mills in USA use to build its house wires like THHN, TFFN, THW, XHHW, Romex, MND90, RW90, etc etc.?
It uses recyled copper scrapped from demolished buildings or surpluses processed in its in-plant smelting facilities. That's why
this mill can beat its competitions to win contracts from those bigboy retail chains at cut-throat prices.

Recyled copper for audios? Noway, Jose.

The minumum I care to use for ICs & the likes is: silver plated OFHC copper. Check with Belden if it ever supplies wires & cables using such high end copper in their product lines.

PS you said you deal with nuclear power plants. So what materials are used in radiation-resistance instrumentation cables ???????
