Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

An Objectivist, Not A Music Lover.

So Tre, you believe, just from reading a tube spec sheet, that both AudioNote who often suggests replacing 5687's with 6900's and the Mastersound dealers, and Mastersound themselves, who responded to my email with... doing the exchange would cause no problems at all. Furthermore many owners prefered using the 6900 tube in their amp. Are all wrong and you're right?

I'd say that's quite arrogant on your behalf, for in doing so you are implying those 2 manufactuers (and their dealers) are too stupid to realize the 6900 tube won't be working correctly in their amps. You're also implying they both know how to build tube amps but can't read a tube data sheet correctly?

Also arrogant on your behalf is to state "You and others are fooling yourselves." When you've never actually heard what exchanging a 5687 for a 6900 sounds like in the Mastersound! Let's assume you're correct and the 6900 isn't functioning correctly when exchanged for a 5687. How can you possibly know, without listening that in spite of that fact, it still presents a more realistic replication of music? You couldn't possibly know one way or they other! So without knowing whether or not it sounds more realistic, how could you know if we are fooling ourselves or not? You couldn't!

This is just Objectivist arrogance, plain & simple. So have a good time reading thos spec sheets Tre and I'll enjoy one of the finest replications of music I've ever heard.
